ACCESSIBILITY
ACCESSIBILITY AT THE DAINTREE DISCOVERY CENTRE
The Daintree Discovery Centre is committed to providing an inclusive rainforest experience for all visitors. We offer a range of features to support guests with mobility challenges, sensory needs, and other access requirements.
The Jarrabina Terraces mid-canopy walkway is fully accessible, linking key areas such as the Interpretive Centre and the Discovery Theatre via step-free paths and ramps.
Our state-of-the-art 3D Hologram Theatre is also fully accessible and directly connected to the Jarrabina Terraces via a dedicated ramp.
Where physical access is limited, such as the 23-metre-high Canopy Tower, Jurassic Forest, Bush Tucker Trail and Cassowary Circuit, visitors can explore these areas virtually through our VR Zone. This technology provides 360° experiences of the rainforest’s key trails and canopy levels from the comfort of an accessible space.
Multilingual audio guides (available in eight languages), visual aids, inclusive signage, and friendly, knowledgeable staff ensure a rich, supported visit for all.

HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR ACCESSIBLE EXPERIENCE:
AERIAL WALKWAY
The Aerial Walkway is constructed using steel grated panels 1.2m wide. Visitors using wheelchairs with 2.5cm tyres and small diameter front casters may find the wheels drop into the grates when turning sideways on the walkway. Larger diameter tyres/casters are generally fine.
The walkway is suitable for visitors with vision-impairment with the lower section of the handrails and balustrades forming a continous ‘shoreline’ along the length of the walkway.
The Discovery Centre’s elevated Aerial Walkway has a gentle incline with a rest node located approximately half-way along. There are numbered signs (located on the hand rails) for both the hand-held audio guides and interpretive guide books, explaining special points of interest.
INTERPRETIVE DISPLAY CENTRE
The Interpretive Display Centre is a large, open plan complex with a variety of displays located on the spacious verandahs as well as inside the Centre itself. Interactive information kiosks with touch screens allow easy access to information suitable for all ages and the Climate Change theatre has flexible seating that can be moved to accommodate wheelchairs.
The Centre’s verandahs provide all-weather protection from the elements and are an ideal place for taking photos, birdwatching or just relaxing and appreciating the ambience of the rainforest.
